2011 Run 245 Pinot Noir
Awards & Accolades
(4 Stars) 93/100 Gourmet Traveller WINE - Aug/Sept 2013
A new label from younger vines. Perhaps lacking the weight and concentration of the Black Poplar Block label but with appealing suppleness and elegance plus an almost etheral texture. A tight-knit wine that's long and linear. (Drink now - 9 years).
(4.5 Stars) 91pts WINE ORBIT – Sam Kim – January 2013
A highly satisfying wine, the attractive bouquet shows fragrant aromas of red/black cherry, truffle, floral and cedar. It’s succulent and rounded on the palate with lovely mid palate weight and silky texture, finishing long and smooth. A real charmer. At its best: now to 2016.
Vineyard
‘Run 245’ was the pastural tenure number given to this Central Otago land in 1866. Since that time it has rewarded those who have walked it - now producing very distinctive wines. This is the first wine under the ‘Run 245’ label crafted from a blend of the younger Dijon clones. Hand harvested this wine has matured in oak for one year.
Vintage
The 2011 vintage started with a warm spring, followed by a cooler wetter mid-season. Good open canopy management was required to reduce disease risk. The season ended with a lovely long autumn producing excellent fruit. As is our practice, the grapes were hand harvested clone by clone on 14 April 2011. The wine has matured in French oak barriques for one year. Bottling took place in May 2012. Minimal intervention is practiced both in the vineyard and in the winery to allow this wine to express its 'sense of place'.
