Spring and Five Nations Challenge
Hello – I’m Pinot – Pisa Range Estate’s vineyard dog – a long-legged female with extraordinary rabbit catching talents. Many of you will have met me when calling at the vineyard. While the designers rebuild our website I will do my best to keep you posted with all our news.
SPRING is here! (very boring from the canine perspective – not many sticks to catch as the mulcher has been through) but exciting for everyone else as it marks the beginning of another season.
Spring in New Zealand also heralds rugby test matches and it’s rugby, that’s occupying everyone’s minds around here – not the weather. Feeling just like a new All Black ‘cap’ we were thrilled to be selected in the New Zealand line up for the 5 Nations Wine Challenge 2012. Bob Campbell MW (New Zealand Judge) selected the 2009 Pisa Range Estate “Black Poplar Block” Pinot Noir as one of this country’s best seven New Zealand Pinot Noirs to be entered in the 2012 challenge.
This is the only wine show in the world where the wines come in exclusively by invitation from the five Judges (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile and Argentina). Each Judge is set the task of nominating SEVEN wines from a minimum of 14 Classes – the best in their country regardless of size of company and number of wines available. The task is to win not only the classes including Wine of Show but the Country of Show as determined by the aggregate scores. All judging is conducted blind.
The All Black’s showed their class in the game against South Africa at the weekend. Maybe this is an omen! Results will be announced in Sydney late October so keep watching for my next post.
This vintage is available for purchase – just go to Wine on the menu bar, where you can download the Tasting Note.
